Ah, the UPS and the DOWNs... life on steroids is the campaign trail... even for a local race! Difficult to imagine what Obama, let alone McCain endured!... Endured, yet enjoyed...

Early a.m., I drafted a response to a post on the site, challenging my sense of green when I loaded up signs on a yard. Asked and answered... At least I THINK so... To quote Ben Stein's memorable cameo as an economics teacher in "Ferris Bueller"--"Anyone? Anyone?" Let me know, if the issue not fully discussed.

Today! Got the PayPal functionality added to the campaign website. Ya-hoo! Received two back-to-back donations! ALSO cruised downtown to pick up some checks of the bigger nature and conducted what felt like a few mini-press conferences from some inquisitive investors.

REALLY LOVED a late afternoon call with a consituent interested in SMART City... Really psyched to get his feedback about the rightness of the direction and specificity of ideas.

Nightime? "Captain Roy" (GREEN City Chief Roy Maufus brainstormed sectors and people to include in our outreach for our GREEN City summits... Green folks, show your color and join our task force. We need educated opinions and fresh ideas alike... Hmmn... EDUCATED OPINIONS and FRESH IDEAS ALIKE... I WONDER who else could fit that bill  ;)

Later-night? A teen green posse of my sons and some of their friends and I went "J-Walking"--carrying JJJs sgn and some green umbrellas through downtown and by the Gallivan, which looked to be packed.  HIP City, baby!

And now, though a relatively "early" night for me, I continue to fall asleep at the laptop... JJJzzz

Tuesday...

ENGAGEMENT has been so important to me in the context of this campaign.

First, MY OWN engagement--accepting the challenge to "throw down" as my good friend and mentor Tom Lund would say.

And, then, witnessing, and, perhaps, even encouraging the engagement of others. It is inspiring to see the traffic on my site build--day by day. Inspiring to see others watch my YouTube clip and to even blog about the impact of the campaign. AND to receive my first electronic funds transfer via my "Tip Jar" on the site! (http://jjjslc.com/Events_Blog.html is also where the Tip Jar "hides!")

Inspiring...

Tuesday included visiting with my web designer and bloggerati pal at a local coffee shop. And then there was hearing some interesting ideas about local legislation in formal and informal venues. And finally? My visit with Equality Utah. Only three of the seven candidates for Salt Lake City Council District 3 accepted the invitation to meet with  Equality Utah.

"Meeting with" a constituent group? It does not imply anything more than an interest in understanding the needs of that group. For more than half of the candidates to not even visit with a group self-described as seeking "a fair and just Utah?" Don't understand that. (btw, candidates are equal opportunity in the aloofness-Only three candidates in this race answered the Salt Lake Board of Realtors' request for interviews.) I REALLY LIKE the concept of "Common Ground" as a theme. It's what Equality Utah stands for; dialogue is an important way of achieving that.

Driving home from my visit, I saw a very inviting porch: An elderly woman and two thirty-somethings visiting. Craving front-porch talk, I pulled my car over and walked right on up. Curiously, I knew one of the men visiting: "Brent," a jjj supporter, is new in town and had previously told me about in-town members of his family's having much different political views than he. The other gent, "Franco," offered up his chair for me to sit! Such nice manners! I felt like, sitting there, sipping drinks on a front porch, like I was out of a scene worthy of a Southern night! We talked 'tics. Very interesting and engaging. Brent's grandmother (lovely, in her 80's), finally succumbed to sleep and excused herself. As the men and I were wrapping up, whom should pull up in a car across the street but another candidate in the race! Having recently become acquainted (he and I were two of the three candidates attending a recent community council event), we visited a bit. Then I came home to a FaceBook message from another candidate.

Nice to have neighbors. And neighbors that are friends. Even if you are trying with all your might to beat them! ;)
