Why didn't Frankie Goes to Hollywood write the song "Two Creek?" (a.k.a. THE PLACE that former Utah Governor Jon Huntsman Dubs "The SECOND Best Garden in the Avenues!"

WEDNESDAY MORNING

This morning, I chose to walk the Lower Avenues. Popping into Two Creek Coffee House (introduced to me by TWCH "Regular" David LeCheminant), I saw my hair inspiration--Ms. Ranna Goran. (When Dave and I saw her beautiful locks, he dubbed the cut "The Emo Shag!"... I went Shag-a-delic myself a few months back and love it.) Ranna also loved it, complimenting my new look. Once outside the restaurant, I deduced that the man lovingly watering the plants must be Two Creek owner Keith Dransfield. Check. It is said that former (sob! miss HIM soooo much!) Governor Jon Huntsman, Jr. depicted Two Creek's verdure to Mary Kaye as such: "Come look at the second-best garden in The Avenues." The silver is golden. "The rain forest" was Keith's description. True True True! If you have not been recently, pop on in! The outdoor vegetation and patio offering? Marvelous!...

Wow... what fatigue! I could barely make it home, without pulling over to the side of the road... traveling all the way to The Upper Ave's from...

Sugar House!

Just big-tired. When I got home and rested for a bit? It took extreme gumption to get me up and out the door, renewing my commitment to, every morn and every night, walk the AveCapFedGuadMarm area... This night it was to be The Marmalade. My son and I walked along North temple, enjoying what looked like "light jugglers"--artistically dancing and then tossing electrictrified objects in the parking lot of Crown Burger. By West High School, we took the shortcut by the track, reminding us of last year's "XC" (cross country) season. No big aha's on this nightly journey, but lots of z-z-z-z's upon the late-night return!

The GREEN Momentum--"Green Drinks" Meeting an Artifact along the Way

TUESDAY MID-EVENING

The evening schedule was jam-packed—running down to Sandy, to participate in an interview with the Salt Lake Board of Realtors—then zipping to the monthly Green Drinks event at Sugar House’s Au Naturel restaurant.
Green Drinks, was, AGAIN, packed! Last month’s event at Wasatch Community Gardens West side locale drew more than 100 people! Exciting to experience such green traction! (SAME with TreeUtah-sponsored water harvesting and Permaculture events last month—60 people attended the water harvesting event with Brad Lancaster, and Toby Hemenway filled an expanded room to discuss growing edible forests on one’s own property.) Met with so many entrepreneurs, eco-veterans, young, recently graduated MBA’s with “sustainability” as their emphasis… Now WHAT was that Obama stimulus package for single moms! I would LOVE that… But… BACK TO SLC City Council! Let all I met know about AUGUST 16—“Green Day” here in SLC! TONIGHT?

Salt Lake Board of Realtors: The Prologue

TUESDAY EARLY EVENING

What a THRILL the meeting with the Board of Realtors was! Honestly! They had given me a brief questionnaire to complete ahead of time, then indicated I would have no more than 15-20 minutes.
Well, they gave me 45 MINUTES! The group complemented JJJ’s campaign as providing interesting, compelling answers and some ideas which THEY SAID had not been articulated by any other candidate among not just SLC candidates, but among any candidate in other area race! This was especially pleasing in that some Avenues colleagues are said to have extensive community housing credentials. Reinforces the notion and importance of FRESHNESS and DIVERSITY and ENERGY and MULTI-PRONGED BUSINESS EXPOSURE as core, much-needed attributes of the Salt Lake City Council. If anyone would like to see my positioning statements provided to the Salt Lake Board of Realtors, let me know. I am so pleased with the strong performance of my team. OUR TEAM! I want the win. I play TO WIN!

Idle Hands Make Light Work... Idling Cars Make Heavy Air

First day being "OUT"...

On 11th Avenue, met Alan, whose issue is with the timing of Salt Lake City's traffic lights. He says a federal traffic agent proclaims our lights as being "30 years behind the times," resulting in the CLOG that then produces the evil SMOG... "What is the point," he rightly questions, "of teaching kids that idling of cars is bad in fast-food lines or during quick errands, when the poor timing of our signals results in most of the idling!"

Bono was WRONG.... THIS is "The Sweetest Thing"...

TUESDAY EARLIER AM

Done walking, Mandy and I headed up for home. Leaving the car IDLING, for what I thought would be "a second," while I plucked spent oenothera blooms from my front retaining wall, I saw about the sweetest thing of my life: Karen, from 16th Avenue, walking dog Zuni with her “front” hand, while the trailing hand pulled a little red wagon. In the wagon? 16-YO Sam, a dog who “still likes to get out,” but, betrayed by age, gets by with the help of her friends. Engine now off. Speaking further with Karen, I learn that we are both proponents of leash requirements, having both been frightened of dogs our entire lives, and in her case, even having been bitten. We two, having overcome our fears and now embracing canines, I think you can teach …

POST-24th... Life DOES go on AFTER P-Day!

MONDAY
Joined by my boys for the 1st time on walks!... Joyous!... Journeyed from home to 11th Avenue, up Terrace Hills to 13th Avenue, then quick jogabout on Northcrest, to Aloha, and... HOME...

WHILST out? Met some great neighbors on 13th Ave and learned of SERIOUS ONGONG problem with drag racers! During chat? Two cars tried, and were "thwarted!" (Fun! ;)

Early, walked East Capitol Hill. Learned from elderly, apartment-dwelling woman who just barely got job, after being long-term unemployed that area has problem with stray animals... MBWA... Management By Walking Around... I, now, literally GET IT, and, constituent friends... So DO YOU! :)

SUNDAY
During PM walkabout, met with U students. They want 2 xeriscape yard and parkstrip, but were told that using rocks and pebbles in their effort to "Rip The Strip" 2 ensure water conservation did not square with SLC code... Had 2 re-design space to ensure 1/3 included plant vegetation AND full grassy strip... Hmmn...

Over the 24th of July weekend

THURSDAY (PREKWEND) Kickoff Introductory meeting.... ROCKED! FRIDAY jjj @ "Drinking Liberally" fund-raiser... winning "the bronze" for a haiku and meeting numerous constituents, internationally-known cartoonist Pat Bagley, and inter-galactically known Sister Dottie Dixon. jjj's photo snapped, seated on couch donated by former and beloved U.S. Congressman Wayne Owens... A sign? HELL YEAH!!! SATURDAY "JJJ Street Fleet" surveyed folks at FARMERS MARKET [sic]  PM/Next-day very early AM jjj/Guerilla Marketing Captain John Mendenhall met with Jared Gollardo in Park City about future synergy and platform ideology. SUNDAY  "JJJ Street Fleet" surveyed folks at PEOPLES' MARKET... Strategic Team held 2.5-hour (GOTTA LOVE IT!) planning session At constituent request/invitation, watched new-paradigm educational video re: economy, government, etc. Night-time walk with Mandy (dawg) yielded great PORCH-TIME chat and platform input.
